One of the nicer looking towns in the area, as it was not demolished during WWII, so most of the buildings and city wall have existed for a couple hundred years. Towns that have not been flattened during WWII attract more tourists since people get a real good look at the historic and cultural side of Germany. Mikael, below, is really proud of his town.
The festival pretty much commemorates a religious war between this town and Swedish invaders over 300 years ago. The story is that the Swedes pretty much took control of the town, slaughtering many Germans along the way. However a group of local children pleaded mercy to the Swedish invaders and out of sympathy the town was kept in peace and the Swedes eventually left, i forget why. Anyway it's not important since the war was pretty pointless, as all wars are. (the hippie side of me talking here)
