Après-ski (French: after skiing) refers to going out, having drinks, dancing, and generally socializing after skiing. It is popular in the Alps where skiers often stop at bars on their last run of the day while still wearing all their ski gear.
And now the German version:
Apres-ski refers to planning a ski trip only to leave your ski's back at home, and drinking whenever possible. I have never really mixed alcohol with doing anything active, but as long as u dont overdo yourself, goin down the slopes a little buzzed ain't that bad. If anything it relaxes me a bit, but i make sure im not too relaxed. Anyway got to meet some good ppl and do some amazing snowboarding.
At this point i can't socialize properly, when they talk "normally" (as in not to me) its a completely different language thick in dialect and slang. The better i get in German the more i realize just how different from High German it is when they speak. So as they wild out im' just standing there like i have duct tape around my mouth. Its a pretty shitty and helpless feeling, despite how hard i try to hear the words i need someone to sit and slowly explain wut the hell is going on. I dont mind asking the odd question, but i'm not too eager to grab someone and sit them down for the sake of translation. I'm beginning to feel however that its the only way.
A thing about the safety vests, yes they look ridiculous, and yes we wore them everywhere for the entirety of the trip. I was thinking if things were going to get that much out of control, and a handful of incidents from being under the influence while skiing came to my head. But i saw many other groups were wearing the same thing i guess to recognize eachother, which kinda defeated the purpose, so we personalized ours.
